Chemical and Mineral Processing
Compositech manufactures several filters for performance in chemical and industrial process applications. We produce a line of horizontal belt filters designed specifically for chemical filtration. In manufacturing these filters, we use special chemical resistant materials for the frame and for coatings. If needed, our horizontal belt filters are available fully enclosed to accomodate the processing of toxic materials. With horizontal belt filters, many different slurries can be filtered, including fibrous materials, fine slimes, and coarse granular or crystalline solids.
Compositech produces disc filters and spare parts specifically manufactured for use in chemical processing. When disc filters are used for chemical processing with a pH level as low as 0.3, the cast iron or carbon steel centershaft regularly supplied by the manufacturer rapidly fails due to extensive corrosion. Our Compositech Composite Centershaft is made of engineered plastics, pultruded fiberglass reinforced resin, and elastomers that all withstand extremely corrosive environments. Compositech's centershaft has been successfully used to replace Eimco "agidisc" filter centershafts for effective long term use in a chemical processing application.
Compositech drum filters have been used by customers in the chemical and mineral processing industry as well as in the processing of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Drum filters have various discharge options and the discharge methods most often used in the processing of chemicals and minerals are precoat discharge, belt discharge, roll discharge, and string discharge.
In addition to the Compositech models of horizontal belt filters, disc filters, and drum filters, we provide replacement parts for other filter brands. We have several chemical and mineral processing customers who use vertical press filters in their processes because these filters offer large capacity, improved cake washing, low cake moisture content, and increased process recoveries in operation. Our spare parts manufacturing capabilities include a variety of parts for vertical press filters.
Significant Accomplishments
Manufacture and installation of Horizontal Belt Filters for the following customers:
Compositech built the first Composite Centershaft in 2003 for Endako Mines in British Columbia and we have followed its performance. We built the second unit in 2006 and the third was completed in 2007 for Thompson Creek. Endako Mines is still operating the first unit, without modifications, and and they continue to be thrilled with its performance.
Compositech designed and built replacement drums for the largest drum filters operating in the United States. The drums were installed at Martin Marietta. Martin Marietta operates several drum filters made by various manufacturers and, according to operating statistics, the Compositech drum capacity exceeds the OEM drum capacity by a factor of 1.5 times.
